ASAP Roofing is a Rockwall Modified Bitumen Roofing systems (MBRs) leader. Modified bitumen is an evolutionary offshoot of asphalt roofing, used primarily for low slope or flat roofs. That is, while asphaltic roofing components are used in the manufacture of MBRs, they are combined with a series of solvents and modifiers to optimize them.

Excellent Customization Ability

ASAP Roofing enjoys the customization ability of MBRs. We use 5 different components that can be combined in several ways to form an MBR roof to fit any requirement. For instance, we can use an initial insulation layer to form a strong foundation or substrate for the roof. We can then place a lower ply sheet layer under a modified bitumen based ply. In addition, we can use a modified bitumen membrane layers that consists of either polyester or fiberglass matting for roofing applications.


Once these steps are complete, we can hold together the layers and components using either a heated or unheated asphaltic adhesive. That is, we can connect the layers and segments using thermal catalysts to merge the asphalt in order to provide a protective seal. Although this method is seldom used in Rockwall roofing applications, we can use a subzero cooling process to apply the asphalt. 

Self-Adhering Modified Bitumen Membranes

These days, we most often find ourselves recommending and using the new Self-Adhering Modified Bitumen Membranes. They have many advantages over the older, more classic, methods of modified bitumen installation. Regardless of the application process, ASAP Roofing would then protect the layers with a weather protective surface finish to provide UV protection and topmost flashings to provide waterproof protection around the roof’s surroundings.

Atactic Polypropylene (APP)

The most common roofing bitumen variants that we currently use are roofing Atactic Polypropylene (APP) and Styrene Butadiene Styrene (SBS). APP is less expensive, but also has lower impact resistance, while SBS has superior impact resistance, but is more costly. In addition, SBS modifiers give asphalt a “rubber-like” texture while APP modifiers cause roofing asphalt to exude a plasticized aesthetic. Hence, MBRs provide a wide range of combinations to create the ideal roof for your residential, commercial, or industrial low slope roofing needs.
